Commercial real estate sales are important to the local economy in Massachusetts. When a deal goes through, it means new business in the area. In some cases, it may even mean a new type of business that will help the area grow and thrive. This is the case with a recent real estate deal in Metro West.
Something this area has never had before is a commercial kitchen. Such an operation is common in other areas across the country, but not in this state. In fact, there are only 15 total registered with the state.
One of the biggest perks of this new kitchen is the generation of property taxes. The estimated amount is around $23,000 a year. This is incredibly beneficial to the community. In addition, the two brothers who want to buy the property, which is on Mercer Road in Natick, plan to use the kitchen for food they will sell online, in food truck, wholesale and for catering. The property is for sale for $2.7 million. It offers 14,000 square feet.
The one current obstacle is that the zoning in the area requires a change to allow for food production. This requires the planning board to approve the change. The brothers have to provide the board with a final proposal to trigger a vote and change in zoning. The board has expressed concerns over disturbances to neighbors from light, smells and noise that the brothers must still address. In addition, they will need to secure a state license before they can begin operation.
